Deeth라는 몇가구 살지않는 아주 작은 마을이 네바다주에 있읍니다. 


이마을은 서부개척당시에는 중요한 역할을 하였죠.  동부에서 힘들게 온 사람들이 캘리포니아로 향하기전에 꼭 쉬어야합니다.  이곳을 지나면 캘리포니아에 도착하기전까지는 물도 구할수없는 매우 황량한 네바다를 지나야하거던요.

이곳 이름은  Deeth라는 사람의 이름을 따서 지었다고도 하고, 혹은 이곳에서 물을 충분이 가져가지 못하면 죽음 (Death0 으로 간다고 하여 지어졌다고 합니다.


위키피디아에 의하면:

Deeth is an unincorporated community near the intersection of Interstate 80 and Nevada State Route 230 in Elko County, Nevada, United States. The population is approximately 28. It used to be more populous, with a water tower, a saloon, a hotel, and other businesses and structures. However, many people have left to find better opportunities. Now only a small population and a few buildings remain. The Post Office remains open as it serves the needs of surrounding ranching areas

올해는 유난히 눈과 비가 많이와서 일부마을이 물에 잠기었읍니다.

1950년대에 고속도로가 완공하기 전까지도 이곳은 주요 열차정거장 이었죠.  지금도 쳘로가 사용됩니다.

저 작은마을 우체국의 소인을 보니 제게는 특별한 감흥이 옵니다.

    사연이 있는 작은 마을들이 많군요. 비가 많이 와서 홍수가 났나 봅니다.

    올해는 서부에도 많은 비가 내리고 있읍니다. 이렇게 비가많이 오는것은 아마도 처음인것 같아요.
    이곳도 길이 물에 잠기어 동네사람들이 불편하게 지내고 있답니다. 우체국은 임시로 다른곳으로 옮겼고요.

    소리없이 얼마나 많은 변천사를 겪어왔을까

    그런 변화들을 헤아리게 됩니다.

    예전에는 호텔도, 술집도, 신문사도 있었다네요.
    그런것들을 생각해보면 더욱 재미있는것 같아요.

    우편물 하나가 참 많은걸 생각하고 느끼게 해주는군요!
    28명 남은 마을에서 마지막 사람까지 떠나가면 저곳의 우체국 소인도 사라져 버리겠어요~

    소인을 보면서 우체부가 정성스레찍은것 같아요. 아주 똑바로 찍혔어요.
    손편지가 오가지 않는 이시대에 Deeth의 소인이 찍힌 편지는 많지 않겠죠?
