1. Olympic Park
Atlanta's best fireworks display and Independence Day festival is at the Park's day-long, family-friendly 4th of July Celebration!
The day kicks off with the WSB-TV’s Salute 2 America Parade, which ends at the Park and features a Centennial Olympic Park float accompanied by Park volunteers. Families can then enjoy a relaxing day of play on the Park’s Great Lawn or in the Fountain of Rings, children’s arts and crafts, street performers and shopping at unique food and merchandise vendors.

The free musical entertainment begins at 5 p.m. with the popular, local band Stokeswood. The Stokeswood sound, named after a downtown Atlanta street, is based on strong acoustic and electric guitar licks, filled with influences like Simon and Garfunkel, Radiohead and the Beatles to name a few. The band’s live performance reflects an energy that is both tranquil and energizing. “We play with a lot of feeling and passion and that love is hopefully passed from the stage to the crowd,” said band member Mark.

Following is the elite United States Air Force Band’s Max Impact. Armed with two of the Air Force's most dynamic vocalists and supported by a hard-hitting four-piece rhythm section, Max Impact has the ability to entertain young and old. The band is frequently called on and has a promise to invigorate today’s Airmen with pride in service and a renewed commitment to excellence.

The headliner of the evening Ruben Studdard, the winner from the second season of the popular television show American Idol, then takes the stage. Over 24-million American viewers voted Studdard, nicknamed the “Velvet Teddy Bear” by soul diva Gladys Knight, the winner of the show. Originally from nearby Birmingham, Ala., Studdard has been singing most of his life and always dreamed of a career in music. He wants to make music “that everyone can listen to and is a real representation of who I am musically.” Studdard is very proud of his Southern roots and has built a reputation on his stage presence as well as his warmth and show-stopping vocals.

The finale of the evening is the AirTran Airways Spectacular Fireworks show, voted by Access Atlanta as Atlanta’s “Best Fireworks” display, framed by the Downtown skyline and synchronized to a special selection of patriotic songs. The AirTran Airways Spectacular Fireworks will broadcast live on 11Alive WXIA-TV as well as simulcast on Star 94.1FM.

Each year, thousands of people come to the Park to celebrate Independence Day; MARTA is strongly encouraged. Exit the West Line at the Philips Arena/Dome/GWCC Station (W-1) or exit the North Line at Peachtree Center (N-1), and follow the signs to Centennial Olympic Park. Please leave pets, glass bottles, fireworks and alcoholic beverages at home. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased inside the Park, but outside alcohol is prohibited. Park patrons are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages, or enjoy the delectable selection at the FountainSide Café, located inside the Visitor Center. A variety of family favorites will also be available from an array of food vendors around the Park.

2. Lenox Square
AirTran Airways 4th of July at Lenox Square - Presented by BellSouth

Put on your red, white and blue and be a part of Atlanta’s legendary Fourth of July celebration, now in its 47th year. Since 1960 families have been celebrating Independence Day at Lenox Square. This July 4th, bring the whole family to AirTran Airways 4th of July at Lenox Square – Presented by BellSouth. Live entertainment begins outside at 5 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:40 p.m.

Melanie Massell, a native Atlantan with a gift for jazz, will kick off this year’s lineup. Rupert’s Orchestra was originally formed in 1987 to open Rupert’s nightclub in Atlanta. Since leaving the nightclub, the band has built a repertoire of 1,500 songs, including top 40 hits, swing, rock, disco and Motown classics. Classix, a contemporary Army Ground Forces Band, has entertained audiences from Atlanta to Kuwait. The show band provides classic to contemporary music, rock and roll, country, swing and patriotic music.

A variety of food, beverage and sponsor tents will be open beginning at 5 p.m.
4th of July at Lenox Square is an Atlanta tradition for the whole family – don’t miss it!

Lenox Square shops and restaurants open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Live entertainment begins outside at 5 p.m.
Fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:40 p.m.

GETTING HERE: Due to street and highway closures, MARTA is always the preferred means of transportation. On the Doraville line, exit at the "Lenox" station; on the North Springs line, exit at the "Buckhead" station. If you drive, be prepared for limited parking and delays following the event.

WHAT TO BRING: Blankets, folding chairs, comfortable clothing and shoes, picnic items; coolers are welcome, but all coolers, bags and personal items will be subject to security search.
